The most rigorous testers in this group settled the question with a manometer. Vacuum Nerds measured the DeWalt 20V at 1,295 Pascals of suction and 73 CFM of airflow, which they point out is roughly double the air watts of the $228 Dyson handheld for less than half the money. When raw cleaning power is the job, nothing else here comes close.

Power alone does not win a recommendation, so it helps that the DeWalt is also easy to live with. Vacuum Nerds gave it a perfect 10 out of 10 for real-world usability and watched it ace their heavy debris nut-pickup test without complaint. The 5.5-inch crevice tool and flexible hose reach all the way to a car's floorboards, a spot where bulkier premium vacuums failed in the same test.
The honest catch is the battery. The tool sells bare for around $109, and a genuine DeWalt pack adds roughly $62, so this is the pick that rewards anyone already inside the 20V ecosystem. For that buyer, and for anyone who values suction and reach over sleekness, the DeWalt is the clear Best Overall.
What It Won't Do
It is a bare tool, so the sticker price hides the cost of a battery unless you already own DeWalt 20V packs. Once a pack is attached it is the heaviest unit here at 4.6 lbs, and Vacuum Nerds note that runtime swings entirely on which battery you choose. If you want a light, all-in-one vac that works the moment it arrives, the Dustbuster is the better fit.
The Black+Decker Dustbuster is the value pick because it embarrasses pricier rivals on the one number that matters most. Vacuum Nerds measured 679 Pascals and 53 CFM for about $40 to $53, then noted it delivers more than double the suction of the $70 Shark Ultra Cyclone. You simply do not find that suction-per-dollar anywhere else in the test.

It is also the easy button. The French Glow credits Black+Decker with years of dialing in this design, so the bin pops out and the filter washes in the sink without fuss, and it ships as a complete kit with a charging cradle. A hidden swiveling crevice tool, which Vacuum Nerds were surprised to find, helped it score a perfect 10 in the heavy debris test despite its wide main nozzle.
At a fraction of the DeWalt's real cost, and with a long reliability track record behind it, the Dustbuster is the handheld most people should actually buy for everyday home and car cleanups.
What It Won't Do
The tradeoffs are runtime and ergonomics. The French Glow measured only about 12 to 13 minutes per charge, which limits it to quick touch-ups rather than a full car detail, and the non-locking trigger means you squeeze and hold it the entire time you clean. Vacuum Nerds also found the wide main nozzle too fat to fit between a seat and console unless you deploy the hidden crevice tool.
