Why the Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher is The Best

The Clearly Filtered pitcher won because it removes more contaminants than any other pitcher on the market, and the lab data backs it up. BOS Water tested 14 pitchers head-to-head and ranked it first for overall filtration effectiveness, citing its ability to handle 365+ contaminants including PFAS (forever chemicals), fluoride, heavy metals, and disinfection byproducts. Project Farm threw heavily contaminated water at it and got safe drinking water out the other side, scoring it at the top for both clarity and fluoride removal.

The filtration technology here is called Affinity Filtration, and it works differently from standard activated carbon. Where most pitchers rely on carbon absorption alone, the Clearly Filtered uses a proprietary multi-stage media that targets specific contaminant families. Water Filter Guru confirmed this translates to real-world performance: over 99% reduction in both fluoride and lead, meeting NSF/ANSI 53 standards.

What separates it from cheaper alternatives is how long that performance holds up. BOS Water highlighted that Clearly Filtered publishes third-party test data at 200% of rated filter life, meaning the filter was still performing well past the 100-gallon mark. Most competitors only test at the beginning of filter life, which tells you nothing about month three.

The build matters too. Medical-grade Tritan plastic (no BPA, BPS, or estrogenic activity, per BOS Water's material safety check) and a 24-month warranty signal a company that stands behind what it sells. The pitcher itself holds 8.5 cups of filtered water in the lower reservoir, enough to fill a 40-ounce bottle in one pour.

What It Won't Do

It is slow. Project Farm measured roughly 13 minutes to filter two cups, which makes on-demand water impossible. You fill it, you wait, you drink later. BOS Water also flagged clogging complaints from customers with high-sediment tap water. The filters are designed to be extremely fine-pored, which means they catch more but also block faster when sediment loads are high. If your water is silty or has visible particles, you might burn through filters faster than the rated 100 gallons. There is also a design quirk where unfiltered water can escape under the lid and mix with clean water if you tilt the pitcher at certain angles while pouring.

Why the Culligan 10-Cup Water Filter Pitcher is the Best Value

The Culligan 10-Cup pitcher (built on ZeroWater's 5-stage filter technology) earned the value pick because it delivers reverse-osmosis-level purity from a $35 pitcher. Water Filter Guru scored it 9.33 out of 10, their highest pitcher score ever, because it eliminated 100% of detected health-related contaminants in lab testing. That includes uranium, fluoride, lead, and total PFAS. BOS Water ranked it second overall for filtration effectiveness, just behind the Clearly Filtered.

The built-in TDS meter is the feature that makes this pitcher feel like a science instrument instead of a kitchen accessory. You test your tap water, filter it, then test again. Watching the reading drop from 200+ to literally zero is satisfying and builds confidence that the filter is working. Water Filter Guru noted this also tells you exactly when the filter is spent, no guesswork involved.

Culligan's redesign of the original ZeroWater pitcher fixed real problems. Water Filter Guru praised the structural improvements that eliminated the old model's chronic leaking issues. The pitcher feels more solid, the lid seals properly, and the reservoir design is cleaner. IAPMO and NSF certifications (standards 42, 53, and 401) across virtually every contaminant it claims to remove give it the formal backing that many premium pitchers lack.

At $35, it costs a third of the Clearly Filtered. For someone whose primary concern is heavy metals, lead, or fluoride in their tap water, the Culligan handles those just as well.

What It Won't Do

The ongoing cost is brutal. Filters last only 15 to 20 gallons, which pushes maintenance to roughly 90 cents per gallon, per Water Filter Guru's calculations. BOS Water agreed: you will be buying replacement filters constantly, especially if your source water has high TDS. A family of four drinking the recommended daily water intake will burn through a filter every week or two. BOS Water also found inconsistent performance on disinfection byproducts like chloroform, with reduction rates swinging between 41% and 86% across retests. If your municipal water has high DBP levels, the Culligan may not catch them reliably. And the tiny 3.5-cup feed reservoir means three separate refills to fill the 10-cup bottom pitcher, which is tedious for daily use.

The Competition

#3 Epic Pure Water Filter Pitcher
$79

BOS Water's #1 pick for usability. The clear reservoir, flip-top lid, and bamboo handle make it the most pleasant pitcher to use daily. A 150-gallon filter life gives it the lowest cost per gallon among premium pitchers at $0.35. Lab gaps on barium and strontium, plus potential methylene chloride leaching, kept it out of the top spot.

#4 Brita Everyday Elite Pitcher
$41

The only pitcher with WQA-certified microplastics reduction and the fastest filtration (40 seconds per cup). At $0.17/gallon it is the cheapest to run long-term. Failed on fluoride and uranium in lab tests, and the build quality drew 'flimsy' reviews from BOS Water.

Check Price
#5 Waterdrop Chubby 10-Cup Pitcher
$27

A specialized pick for appliance protection. Reduces water hardness by 75-77% to keep coffee makers and kettles limescale-free, with a 200-gallon filter life at $0.07/gallon. Does almost nothing for health-related contaminants beyond chlorine.

Check Price
#6 LifeStraw Home 10-Cup Pitcher
$52

The only pitcher tested against bacteria and parasites (E. coli, Cryptosporidium, Giardia). A strong choice for well water or boil-water advisory areas. Terrible ergonomics: too tall for most fridges, requires four refills, and the small handle makes pouring awkward.

Check Price
#7 Aquagear Water Filter Pitcher
$70

Fastest filtration speed overall (3.5 minutes for a full reservoir) with strong copper and clarity performance from Project Farm's testing. BOS Water ranked its pouring experience dead last because the spout cover jams and sprays water. No formal NSF certification.

Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher

Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher

Removes more contaminants than any other pitcher, backed by third-party lab data

  • Households concerned about PFAS, fluoride, or heavy metals in municipal water who want the most thorough pitcher filtration available
  • Buyers with a higher upfront budget ($90) who prefer lower long-term maintenance costs at $0.55/gallon
  • Anyone who values medical-grade materials (BPA/BPS-free Tritan) and a 24-month warranty
  • People who fill the pitcher in advance and refrigerate it, since the slow filtration speed requires patience
  • Renters or apartment dwellers who cannot install under-sink or whole-house filtration systems
